Intellicone® IPAWS and Intellitag® saves resource and improves safety
The installation of HRS’ Intellicone® Incursion Prevention and Warning System along with Intellitag® resulted in increased safety with a reduction in cost and labour requirements due to removing the need for routine maintenance checks.
The Challenge
The A483 Llynclys required nightly closures between the 23rd February and the 7th March to facilitate resurfacing works.
The approved diversion route was 58.4 miles long, with a single inspection run taking approximately 1 hour and 34 minutes. Under traditional traffic management arrangements, this would be required:
> A dedicated crew to continuously monitor the diversion
> Four or more manual inspections per night
> Increased workforce exposure to the live carriageway
Our Solution
Quantum TM worked closely with HRS to evaluate the suitability of using digital solutions to overcome the problems they were going to be facing onsite during the A483 closure.
The solution included
> Intellicone® IPAWS with Intellicam® at the closure points to provide incursion detection and visual monitoring.
> Intellitag® along the diversion route, enabling event based maintenance.
Outcome
The introduction of our digital equipment delivered immediate operational and safety benefits:
> The workforce had the protection from Incursion protection alarms.
> The need for a dedicated diversion-monitoring crew was removed.
> Over the 10-night closure, only 3 site visits were required to rectify fallen signage following system alerts.
> The client was able to monitor the closure and diversion remotely via the HRS online portal.
> Workforce exposure to the live network was significantly reduced
> Carbon saving of 1559.5 kg
