The A509 road closure, focuses on the redevelopment of the existing road network, the building of 5000 new homes and a multitude of commercial developments in the area.
The closure has a 13-mile diversion route which was being manually checked 12 times a day.
The HRS team evaluated the suitability of using Intellitags along the diversion, knowing that we could demonstrate an overall cost, resource and carbon saving to the client, providing digital evidence of the required maintenance checks whilst remaining fully compliant.
Moving the client towards an event-based approach to site maintenance.
The existing requirement of 4 operatives on site 24/7 was removed, meaning they could be deployed elsewhere. The client moved from manual checks every 2 hours to 100% event-based within 1 month and found the reduction in risk exposure to the workforce a huge benefit as they only needed to be deployed when the system alerted that there was a problem with a sign along the diversion route. The client could log into the HRS online portal from anywhere and at any time to monitor the diversion route. The reduced visits to site resulted in lower vehicle use meaning less diesel being used and therefore a reduction in carbon emissions.
The scheme is expected to complete in May 2025, since the installation of Intellitag® in May 2024, the monthly saving on site is currently:
This demonstrates a significant cost saving over the projected duration of the project.
