Traffic Safety Management improved customer communication, reduced costs and enhanced safety on Nottingham and Leicester Road with Intellicone® IPAWS

The Challenge
Carriageway patching works were scheduled in February on Leicester Road in Shepshed and Nottingham Road in Loughborough, with each site requiring a full road closure across four days.
Despite their differing environments of an urban and rural location, both sites presented similar operational challenges and to safely manage the closures, traditional methods required 7 operatives per site.
Our Solution
Traffic Safety Management (TSM) and HRS collaborated to deploy the Intellicone® Incursion Prevention and Warning System (IPAWS) and provide an efficient alternative to traditional traffic management for Leicester County Council.
The solution included:
> Intellicone® IPAWS with Smart lamps and Single Sentry Laser at the attended and unattended closure points to provide incursion detection.
> Customer Communication Terminals (CCT)to provide residents with direct access to a supervisor on site.
Outcome
The introduction of digital equipment delivered immediate operational, cost and safety benefits on both sites:
> 24 Gate personnel removed across 8 shifts
> Approx. £5,000 cost saving for the Local Council
> Reduced workforce exposure to live traffic, enhancing overall safety
> Improved communication for members of the public
